January 5, 1991--This week Siskel and Ebert took time out to reveal their individual lists for the best films of 1990.
(intro CLIP): Awakenings…After Dark, My Sweet…Reversal of Fortune…What do these 3 films have in common? Well, each one is on either my list or Gene’s list of the 10 best films of 1990, and some of them might even be on both lists because [gestures an open upward palm his direction] the lad is capable of learning (Gene chuckles very lightly). On this special edition of Siskel & Ebert, we’ll each be showcasing films on our lists, including our picks for the Best Film of the year, and I’m Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times…

So those are your 10 and my 10 choices in order were… (EBERT)
And let me say something right now, because: you and I have picked Goodfellas, every critic’s group has picked Goodfellas – I think maybe, it might be time for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to make some recognition of the fact that Martin Scorsese is alive and working in the film industry today. He made the best film of the 80s, Raging Bull, according to every poll that was taken anywhere; the best movie of the 70s, Taxi Driver, now he’s made Goodfellas and they’ll probably wind up giving the prize again to some respectable little, do-gooding picture or something… (EBERT)
– Well, it may be Kevin Costner’s Dances with Wolves, which is the third on your list, we’ll see — (SISKEL)
– Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, but still — I mean and that’s a good picture but Scorsese is up there in a different category. (EBERT)
